THE BEST SENIOR SESSIONS AREN'T BUILT FROM A PINTEREST CHECKLIST.

After photographing more than 1,300 high school seniors since 2009, I've learned that confidence changes everything. When seniors stop trying to fit someone else's idea of who they should be and start embracing what makes them unique, the photos follow.

Don't get me wrong. I love a great classic portrait, but I also know a single photograph can only tell you so much about a person.

I believe the best senior sessions find the right balance between classic and unconventional. The classic portraits everyone wants, mixed with the interests, experiences, and little details that make you who you are right now.

And if you're thinking, "I have absolutely no idea what I'd include," you're not alone. Most seniors don't.

And that's where I come in.

I work with high school seniors throughout Salt Lake City, Park City, and the surrounding areas to create senior portraits that feel personal and absolutely theirs. My job is to dig deep, connect the dots, and guide the process from start to finish. It doesn't have to be complicated. It should be fun.

Every custom senior session is centered around who you are and not what's trending on social media.

This approach may not be for everyone, and that's okay. It's for the senior who wants something that feels personal, intentional, and true to who they are.

At the end of the day, that's what I'm after:

The classic portraits you'll always love, and the pieces of your story you'll be glad you didn't leave out.

HOW IT WORKS

A young woman with curly hair smiling and holding a stack of books, standing in a field during sunset.

Step 1

Complete the application to receive the Senior Pricing Guide. If SLSENIORS feels like the right fit, we'll discuss available dates. Your session is secured once the Portrait Agreement is signed and the 50% Creative Session Fee retainer is paid.

A young man wearing sunglasses and a short-sleeved button-up shirt stands against a beige brick wall, looking at a green glass bottle that appears to be floating or falling.

Step 2

2–4 weeks before your session, we'll meet for a video consultation to plan the details that make your session unique. Then I'll guide you through the rest.

Step 3

At your session, we'll chase good light, crank your favorite playlist, and create photos that feel like the best version of you.

A young man in a white shirt, black pants, and sneakers stands outdoors holding an acoustic guitar. He is positioned near a brick wall under a bridge, with a distinct shadow cast on the ground, and appears to be looking toward the camera.

Step 4

About 3 weeks after your session, it's reveal day! You'll view your images and decide which collection is the best fit for you.

why an application process?

It isn't really about being chosen. It's about making sure we're the right match.

Not every senior is looking for an SLSENIORS experience, and that's completely okay.

If you're looking for someone to show up and work through a specific shot list the entire time, I'm probably not the right photographer for you. I take a much more involved approach because you only get one senior year, and I think it's worth doing well. Copying and pasting someone else's session just doesn't hit the mark.

That doesn't mean more work or more stress.

The process naturally mirrors your energy. Some seniors have a dozen ideas before they even fill out the application. Others aren't quite sure where to start yet. Both are completely okay.

The more you share with me, the more I can tailor the experience around who you are, but there's never any pressure to have everything figured out before you apply.

I build each session around the senior in front of me rather than following a trend. That means getting to know your story, finding the details worth including, and creating something that feels intentional.

Once you've completed the application, I'll personally reach out and we'll start the conversation from there.

Think of it less as paperwork and more as the beginning of the entire process.

DEAR PARENTS,

Senior year has a way of sneaking up on you guys.

One day you're packing lunches and driving to practice, and the next you're helping them fill out college applications and wondering where the time went.

When I photograph your son/daughter, I'm not just looking for a nice smile. I'm looking for the things you'll miss years from now. The laugh that always sounds like them. The way they push their hair behind their ear. The favorite outfit they've worn a hundred times. The little details that quietly disappear as life moves forward.

I think the best images happen when seniors feel comfortable enough to be themselves. That's why I encourage them to have a voice in the process. The locations, outfits, and ideas that matter to them often become the photographs that mean the most later.

Don't worry. If parents and seniors have different visions, we'll figure it out together. That's exactly what the planning consultation is for. My job is to create photographs that feel true to your senior while also creating portraits you'll be proud to display for years to come.

And if this is your first senior, don't worry. You don't need to have it all figured out. I'll guide you through the process and help make the experience feel a whole lot less overwhelming.

Yes, we'll create beautiful photographs.

Someday these images will matter for reasons neither of us can see yet.

They'll remind you of who your senior was before the next chapter began. Before life got busier. Before everything changed.

And that's a responsibility I don't take lightly.
